Valve has just updated Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the PC and Mac platforms, adding some much needed enhancements to the multiplayer shooter, while reducing its actual size from 6GB to 4.8GB.That lack of information persisted until yesterday, when Kotaku’s Stephan Totilo got the chance to spend an hour playing CS:GO. During his session at Valve’s Bellevue, Washington headquarters he played through four of the games map’s, all of which were remakes of original maps from older versions of Counter-Strike. This was apparently Totilo’s first time playing the game (which is much different than the typical shooter) so his comparisons to the older titles, like CS 1.6 and CS: Source, are limited, but he was able to get some useable information. Notable info includes: there will be 7 maps (5 Bomb/Defuse and 2 Hostage Rescue), classic makes like Dust and Nuke are returning (we already knew this) but with slight tweaks to improve play, and that there is a casual mode that does away with the game’s system of purchasing weapons (and rewarding winners). The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive public beta goes live worldwide to anyone in possession of a key on 30th November, Valve has announced.Somewhat surprisingly, the move has seemingly been made without any actual proof of match-fixing, and Yong has said he doesn't actually believe any wrongdoing took place. “But when there is overwhelming public opinion to the opposite there is no choice but to cease all negotiations,” the statement says. “The organization wishes the team good luck in their future endeavors and with their quest to make the majors.”The decision to halt contract negotiations over unproved allegations may have been driven by the recent permabanning of 21 CS:GO players who were caught up in a match-fixing scandal in early 2015. Valve initially announced that those suspensions were “indefinite” and would be reviewed at the start of 2016, but instead of lifting them it dropped the hammer on all involved with permanent bans. In light of that unequivocal stance, 24/7 Esports may well have decided that distancing itself from even the appearance of impropriety was the only move it had.Valve recently made itself abundantly clear in matters of Counter-Strike match fixing: if you’re involved in a thrown match, you’re banned from Valve-sponsored events for life. One team claims they were asked by their owner to do it anyway. So they quit.Trade holds went into effect on December 9, and that same day, Malwarebytes discovered an illegitimate website spoofing the Steam trading interface. The spoof is based on CSGO Shuffle, a popular site for trading weapon skins outside of Steam. The spoofed site looks and functions exactly like the Steam trading window, and warns users that they will be subject to an escrow hold of their items. When users agree, a program called “Escrow.exe” downloads to their computer. Malware analysis by Payload Security says that this program is a well-known malware called Backdoor.NanoCore.It’s time for Esports to embrace regulated betting and gaming, to shut down these questionable operations or to force them to regulate themselves in the same way as traditional gambling operators, or it risks losing its shirt.A new post on the Malwarebytes blog points out a new threat targeting Steam users who are using the “Steam escrow” – or as Valve calls it, the “Steam trade hold” – system. As is often the case with these sort of threats, the one uncovered by Malwarebytes security researchers and highlighted by Jovi Umawing uses a website that looks and acts like Steam’s new system.Glitches like this can be fixed easily enough, one would hope, but body parts clipping through walls is a more intractable problem. On the defending side Siege is very much about camping, but if you're next to certain walls bits of your anatomy or gun can clip through them. This happens especially when prone, because the player's perspective is disconnected from the character model in the sense the latter can occupy impossible positions so the former can take realistic sightlines. This is not an easily solvable problem because, basically, it's a trade-off the developers have made. But one has to question the wisdom of that deal in a game where positioning is king.If I ever meet Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the first thing I will say is "give up on uPlay." One has to respect that any publisher Ubisoft's size wants to have its own distribution platform and "social network," but not at the point where it is actively making that same company's games worse for the player. Siege uses uPlay to handle team invites, and it only just manages. Sometimes the invites don't go through, or it drops players between screens. This is a pain when you just want efficiency.

The AWP’s firerate is equally slow, placing huge importance on hitting your first shot. The Scout, the AWP’s cheaper sibling, features a similarly slow firerate but allows for insanely high mobility, even when scoped-in (unlike the AWP). And like many of CS:GO’s guns, the AWP is sensitive to movement, requiring near-perfect stillness to execute an accurate shot (see the Advanced Techniques section for more on this). AWPers are thus faced with the dilemma of holding static angles that easily fall prey to flashbangs and pincer-pushes onto bombsites. In 2006 the Unlawful Internet Enforcement Act made some sweeping changes, but left a noticeable grey area. Specifically it “…prohibits gambling businesses from knowingly accepting payments in connection with the participation of another person in a bet or wager that involves the use of the internet and that’s unlawful under any federal state or law.”CS: GO has been around for quite some time now, but only towards the end of 2013 did the multiplayer-only first-person shooter enter the mainstream in terms of popularity. 2014 saw several huge eSports tournaments organized with the help of Valve, not to mention plenty of new maps and goodies for players. The Kana CS:GO Edition has a few extra features that establish it as a step above a “basic” gaming mouse. Two extra-large buttons on either side of the mouse allow the user to program extra macros or keypresses to the mouse. They work well in most aspects, but they require a bit more force to activate than the oh-so-wonderful-to-click regular mouse buttons. The Kana CS:GO Edition also has a “CPI Toggle” key behind the mousewheel which allows the user to change between two CPI (better known as DPI or dots per inch to most users) settings on-the-fly. My one gripe about the Kana CS:GO Edition comes from this CPI Toggle key. While most mid-range gaming mice allow the user to customize the DPI in 100-dot increments, the Kana CS:GO Edition only allows DPI settings of 400, 800, 1600, or 3200 DPI. While many users may not have a problem with using one of the pre-defined settings, I prefer a DPI of about 1200 when using my 1080p 23” monitor, and 800 definitely felt too sluggish while 1600 felt a little too jittery. It would have been nice to be able to more precisely define DPI settings for the Kana CS:GO Edition, but alas, I had to settle for using a not-so-comfortable DPI setting of 1600 DPI.I’d imagine that if you were ever a Counter-Strike fanboy, you are already happily shooting people as well as having your face shot off in the latest iteration of Counter-Strike. What sort of FPS Sourcery have the magical Valve studio released? Same game, different look? Predominantly yes, but for a mere $15, the age old addictive FPS multiplayer action with new tweaks, weapons and such can be yours.

The group previously placed in the top 10 at The International 4, won in Quake at two DreamHacks and a QuakeCon, claimed a CS:GO Title at the DreamHack Invitational 2 and placed second in the 2015 Smite World Championships. However, as Grust details in his farewell post, the VAC ban dealt to CS:GO team member Hovik 'KQLY' Tovmassian in November 2014 would mark the beginning of the end. When you’re first starting to play, figure out what sort of video, audio and control settings work for you. There’s no specific settings that are “correct,” so you’ll have to find out what works best with your personal preferences and your current hardware. Make sure you’re getting at least 64 frames per second, because that’s the “tick rate” of CS:GO’s official matchmaking servers (ie. 64 times per second is how frequently your client communicates with the server.)Deathmatch is a game mode where there’s no objectives, no rounds, and no worrying about money. It’s the purest distillation of CS’s gunplay, and since there’s no downtime after you die like there is in a real match, it’s the quickest way to learn how all the different guns work. It won’t teach you team tactics or how to play objectives, so you should play other game modes as well, but it’s certainly a good way to start learning the recoil patterns and other behaviours of the game’s various firearms. Most players, and reviewers, placed blame of its low popularity on its inability to evolve the franchise. Veterans noted that it was a step back in a few ways, namely how the community server window was hidden from view in favor of matchmaking as well as its poor competitive scene support. It looked as if history was going to repeat itself, and CS 1.6 would remain the most popular title in the franchise despite its age.The popularity of skins extends well beyond just players being addicted to opening cases. The Community Market and websites like CSGOTraders specialize in hosting transactions between players, as they look to trade and sell their items in pursuit of higher rarity items, especially knives which are viewed as highly sought after. In some cases players dedicate many hours to trading up their acquired items in an effort to increase the value of their collection without spending additional money on buying keys to open cases. There’s a reason Cherry MX switches are still so popular, and it doesn’t take much time with the Cooler Master to feel it. The keys slide easily when touched, and click satisfyingly after hitting the actuation point. They quickly return to fully extended, so the loudest part of typing on the Blues is the cap smacking as it snaps back into position."The majority of profit now is made off of 'picking' the Steam market," he says. "There are a lot of people who either bot, or literally sit on their computer refreshing the market in hopes that someone lists a high value item. The large majority of those unboxing items are not 'traders' and do not know exactly how much certain items may go for."

A very small percentage of players ever get lucky enough to earn back their investment.

The U.K. Gambling Commission, which regulates betting, declined to comment on individual providers but said any site offering gambling services to British residents must be registered. For most current users of Steam, this won’t pose too much of an issue; and it will cut down a lot of spam accounts that have been causing havoc on Steam. I can sympathize with younger users who may not have a credit card to be able to purchase games. That said, there is an alternative with the Steam wallet cards that they could purchase at a local shop. For people who can’t afford games right now; if you’re serious about wanting these features, it couldn’t hurt to do some chores for parents or the elderly for just $5 so you could activate it. For people who STILL have an issue; fair enough, and I hope you somehow procure that $5 somehow!Bloodborne contains fewer total weapons than previous From Software RPGs, but each one has several variations. In all of this, it's worth remembering that Valve is making a serious amount of cash through the marketplace. Multiple items are bought and sold every single second, and with the company's 15 percent take on each transaction, you have to wonder just how much money the marketplace is bringing in.If you’ve got a decent number of bullets left in your magazine and think an enemy is close, don’t start reloading and get caught with your pants down. Reloading takes time, and you should only do it when you think you’re safe from enemy fire. If you run out of bullets in a firefight, switching to your pistol is going to be much quicker than trying to reload mid-fight.

Frequency response (output) is tuned to 15Hz – 25KHz on the Cloud II, affording a range slightly wider than nearby competition (normally 20Hz-20KHz), though this won't necessarily be all that noticeable to most users. For the past year, almost all of the time I’ve spent playing PC games has been upright, with both feet firmly planted. When I decided to switch to a standing desk, I wasn't curious about the (“disputed,” according to Wikipedia) health benefits. I just wanted to give my gaming setup a makeover. If gaining Chun-Li legs was going to a side-effect of playing CS:GO all day, great. But I was mostly concerned with refreshing the look and feel of my desk area."ESL One Cologne followed in the footsteps of ESL One Frankfurt in that it transformed a mere esports event into an esports festival," ESL said in a statement. "Visitors on-site were able to take part in many festival-like experiences including bullriding, testing their reflexes on a T-Wall, and getting an airbrush tattoo, brought to them by ESL’s sponsors/partners."Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is an ultra-competitive first-person shooter, but who said it couldn't be a clothing line too? One fashion label has decided it can be and, in partnership with Valve, is taking votes on the best designs. As the image above suggests, if all goes to plan you'll soon be able to wear jackets brandished with your favourite weapon skin. It's a stark message for those tempted to claim ownership for another's work. The new Contraband rarity and Valve-designed paint-job has, of course, meant a spike in the skin's desirability. Since the item was updated, StatTrak Minimal Wear versions have been sold for around $400. want more people to play CS:GO. With caveats made for its flaws (64-tick servers, uninspiring stat tracking, the modest number of official maps, and imperfect cheat detection), CS:GO is the best competitive FPS on PC today. Until Evolve or Rainbow Six Siege come around, I expect that to continue uncontested. There's no catch - it's a pretty awesome deal!
