The ESL One Cologne tournament will take place at the 20,000-seat Lanxess Arena in Cologne on August 22-23. Tickets to the event will go on sale on February 23. Every Monday in Shooterology , Evan writes about FPSes.I love the husband/wife dynamic here. While both of them are gamers, she's obviously nowhere near as excited about the roll as he is. This is what my wife looks like every time a new Hatsune Miku game comes to the States, complete with kid-considerate sushing.Valve oddly makes betting incredibly easy in the game itself. One can buy cases that have randomly won weapons upon opening, which the keys to open also cost money. Those weapon skins can be easily transferred to third-party pools, or websites, to be either sold or put into a ‘pot’ to be won by betting on different professional and semi-professional CSGO matches. There is a wide variety of websites that offer ways to use your weapon skins as collateral, and currency, to gamble and place bets.As electronic sports becoming popular, MLG moved to another level by branching out to PC games in 2008 broadcasting World of Warcraft competitions. The company continued their rise as they broadcasted competitions in StarCraft 2. In 2010, MLG became much more popular when they hosted and broadcasted e-sports competitions on Defense of the Ancients 2 and League of Legends. In July, though, Kory Friesen, a Counter-Strike player known as "Semphis", told an interviewer that he and team-mates "were all on Adderall," a stimulant typically used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, during a competition in Poland. He then told 'The New York Times' that did not necessarily make his team win: "You don't just take Adderall and instantly become better," Friesen said. He did not reply when asked to comment by Bloomberg. In 2006 the Unlawful Internet Enforcement Act made some sweeping changes, but left a noticeable grey area. Specifically it “…prohibits gambling businesses from knowingly accepting payments in connection with the participation of another person in a bet or wager that involves the use of the internet and that’s unlawful under any federal state or law.”My next dealer admits that he perhaps goes a little overboard with his CS:GO trading. When you buy a "key" to open a weapons case in Global Offensive, you're presented with a spinning gambling dial, which flicks around until it eventually lands on your winning weapon.Since then, his CS:GO trading has involved finding expensive weapons in cases, trading them for more and more expensive weapons with other users, and then plugging all that money back into more cases.

The Strafe RGB is a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Brown RGB, MX Red RGB, or MX Silent Red RGB switches, including a full 16.8 million colors available for lighting customization. Other than the option to set macros, the Strafe RGB is still a normal keyboard -- nothing too crazy about it, but that fits the Strafe’s market. The primary obstacle to the Strafe – which is the case with many PC components and high-end keyboards – is the price tag: $150, in this case.Hundreds of game developers, publishers and analysts recently descended on Brighton for the annual Develop conference. There were controversial keynotes, there were talks about how to make money in a rapidly fragmenting marketplace, but there were also some interesting forward-looking sessions, concerned with where the games industry as a whole is heading – not so much in terms of game design (that’s the domain of events like the Game Developers Conference and SXSW), more in the way the sector will operate as a business. Some of it is pretty weird. Some examples included the Samsung M3 2TB external HDD for £65, the Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD for £260 and the Creative Fatal1ty HS-800 headset for £20. Zero is a customer service representative for one of the biggest video game cheat providers in the world. To him, at first, I was just another customer. He told me that the site earns approximately $1.25 million a year, which is how it can afford customer service representatives like him to answer questions over TeamSpeak. His estimate is based on the number of paying users online at any given time, the majority of whom, like me, paid for cheats for one game at $10.95 a month. Some pay more for a premium package with cheats for multiple games.

The most obvious of my new superhuman abilities was spying on other players through walls. In CS:GO, wallhacking is incredibly useful. Faceoffs around corners come down to millisecond reactions. My ability to see exactly when the enemy was coming, or to know exactly where he was hiding when I was coming, was unfair to say the least. It was also super fun. Maybe the most fun I've had with Counter-Strike in years. I was finally getting kills, more than one in a round, but I wasn't crushing everyone else. It was like a little boost that got me back into my high school fighting shape. This kind of gambling - licensed, regulated, and by adults, is generally accepted in eSports. There is growing concern, though, that teenagers are being attracted to different forms of betting facilitated by third-party providers."When we took ESL One to Katowice last year, we saw some absolutely fantastic games and experienced a great atmosphere—particularly when Virtus.pro, a Polish team, were crowned champions in front of their home crowd,” ESL Pro Gaming Managing Director Ulrich Schulze said in a statement. "Since then CS:GO has made incredible progress and we are honoured to once again have been given the opportunity to host a CS:GO Major with a US$250,000 prize purse.”With Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s release in 2012, and the subsequent reinvigoration of CS as an esport, the game is larger in the public eye than ever before, and that’s bound to bring in some fresh meat. If you’re one of those new players who’s been sucked in by Global Offensive’s recent popularity, here’s some quick pointers to improve your CS skills.Valve has just updated Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the PC and Mac platforms, adding some much needed enhancements to the multiplayer shooter, while reducing its actual size from 6GB to 4.8GB.

The game is based around two factions, Terrorists, and Counter Terrorists. This is common in modern day FPSs like Call of Duty and Battlefield, but CS:GO does it differently, and in my opinion, they do it better. The speedier pace of combat and the addition of Injustice's background interaction are just two of the things that make Mortal Kombat X a better-playing game than its predecessor. Also, MKX feels like an attempt to move forward into new things, whereas MK9 was one large, albeit rebooted nostalgia trip. And it looks fantastic all the while. All of this is enough to make up for the game's handful of rough edges around story mode and some of its other options.Valve has just massively overhauled its Steam refund policy, allowing customers to apply for refunds on “nearly any purchase”, and for “any reason”. There are some small dependencies of course, and refunds differ between different types of products e.g. bundles, movies etc.The right trackpad on the Steam Controller is configured to a 1:1 view control mode allowing you to move your thumb on the pad to translate it into movements on the screen. The left pad on the controller has been configured to be used as a D-Pad where the normal directions of movement have been mapped to the AWSD keys on your keyboard. But het configuration can be reversed if preferred.Counter Strike: Global Offensive will hit PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 21 August for $14.99 (around £10-£12) and will have a public beta, Valve has confirmed.

A very small percentage of players ever get lucky enough to earn back their investment. So when he was given the IP of a TeamSpeak server to join, he didn’t think twice. After all, competitive players have been using TeamSpeak, Mumble, Ventrilo and Skype for years: joining IPs is almost part and parcel of any good FPS on PC. Team Fortress 2 is a few hours away from receiving one of its biggest updates yet. The Gun Mettle update will offer a campaign to players, providing two contracts per week for three months, giving them specific challenges to fulfill. If you’re good enough, you’ll be awarded with a brand new weapons case, which contains juicy new weapons that sport unique skins.Enemy fought back convincingly in game two, particularly jungler Adjust on Serqet—where Epsilon had a good hold on the map in the first game, here repeated pickoffs prevented them from mustering the same control. However not everything went Enemy’s way: Epsilon solo laner Dimi, who has been struggling with flu throughout the later stages of the tournament, went on an absolute tear as Tyr, soloing Saltmachine’s Bellona and acting as his team's unstoppable frontline in crucial later engagements. Along with a brilliant performance by Epsilon midlaner Yammyn as Isis, he was instrumental in turning a late teamfight that tipped a losing game in Epsilon’s favour. Enemy once again came out ahead in game three, but Adapting once again had Thor—and, once again, Enemy couldn’t quite win the battle of the junglers. Enemy's Adjust fell behind on Hun Batz (the same character he fell behind with in game one) while Adapting played an even better game than he had previously. Epsilon captain iRaffer proved that Geb shields win Smite championships, and a great late kill on Adjust by Yammyn’s Medusa tipped another close game Epsilon’s way. As Enemy fought for their lives, Adapting landed the Thor dunk to end all Thor dunks—and, in this case, to end Worlds. With Enemy wiped off the map, Epsilon stormed through the Phoenix and right onto the Titan, ending the tournament and earning $500,000.

First up, veteran fans will enjoy the return of Train, a classic map that was a part of the standard rotation a few months ago but was retired so that Valve could work on it and give it a new lease on life. The revamped version features plenty of major changes and is available currently as part of the Operation Vanguard map group, which is offered for free to all owners of the game.Another weapons smuggler tells me that gambling is a huge part of the CS:GO gunrunning experience, and once you grow accustomed to it, can put you at a huge financial advantage. Some betting occurs within the game, as you pay small amounts of cash to open weapons cases that could potentially contain an expensive, rare weapon... or quite the opposite. However, there's also a whole additional level of gambling that's hiding below the surface.Bets can be made through the CS:GO Lounge, allowing you to risk the weapons currently in your inventory against upcoming official CS:GO tournament matches. As you'd expect, the more expensive the weapons you place into the bet, the more payoff you're going to get back. Betting involves accepting a Steam trade from a bot, giving it the weapons you want to bet, and then trusting that if you win the bet, it'll give you them back along with your winnings. Of course, if you lose the bet, don't expect to hear from the bot again.More than anyone else, I feel sorry for the developers of Siege, who have made the game of their careers. It is an absolute peach, but while they're firefighting so many issues there's no time to look at long-term refinements for balance and maps. It's like Ubisoft's management doesn't comprehend just how good Siege is or how much its potential is harmed by Ubisoft's servers and uPlay.Perhaps Siege is seen internally as potential sequel material, Ubisoft's own Call of Duty cookie-cutter, rather than a platform to be grown over time. That would be so short-sighted—and such a waste of potential—that it has to be called mismanagement. Siege's quality is so high in parts that the game could become a serious e-sports platform and, given time, might even surpass the mighty Counter-Strike.One Shot, One Kill, No Skill: Why a Regular Gamer Started Paying to Cheat at Video Games
